Congratulations! You're getting married . . .

During your entire lifetime, you have been waiting for this moment and now the time has come for making plans for that dream wedding.

One of the most important and intimate choices to be made is that of the first romantic dance. Many aspects are considered when making this decision and the sources of inspiration are as plentiful as there are engaged couples.

Here are a few tips and ideas to help you get started with your music selection:

L) Romance: What special song reminds both you and your future spouse of when you first met or what song was playing the first time you hit the dance floor for the very first time? This song only needs to be special to the two of you. This is your day and no one else matters at this moment.

O) Parental Influence: What song has a special meaning to either set of your parents? Some couples choose to pay tribute and thanks to their parents by choosing the same first wedding dance song they chose many years ago. This choice can be very touching for members of your guest list who reminisce about attending your parents own special wedding day.

V) Culture: Do one or both of you come from a different culture that you would like to honor? Ask relatives for their input on a choice of songs that would come from that particular background. Again, this choice can be very touching and special for members of your guest list who are decedents of that culture.

E) DJ: If you find you just don't have any special ideas, a DJ can be the perfect solution for choosing your first dance song . . . by the way, he or she is an expert and should be quite familiar with what songs are currently popular and being utilized at weddings during this time.

We should mention something that is happening more and more, given the nature of our times and families that don't get along quite like The Brady Bunch. There are some situations in which brides don't get along that well with their fathers.

In these situations, it's still perfectly acceptable to have the father give away the bride, and it's still acceptable to have him dance with the bride during the reception. It is not, however, required.

Still, if you do decide to go ahead with the father-bride dance, you might consider doing an all musical number, with no words sung out loud. This would help to avert some possibly awkward moments.

Who knows? Maybe the father â€" daughter dance could actually serve as a tender moment bringing the two together. It might even be the launching point of a better relationship in the future.
